Peugeot's Rich History
1810
Peugeot is a French car manufacturer that was founded in 1810. Although the company originally produced coffee mills and bicycles, it is now best known for its production of automobiles.
In 1889, Peugeot began producing cars with a steam-powered engine, but by 1891 the company had switched to internal combustion engines. The company's first car, the Peugeot Type 2, was released in 1891 and was powered by a Daimler engine. Peugeot continued to produce cars throughout the early 20th century, with its most popular model being the Peugeot 203, which was produced from 1948 to 1960.
In 1974, Peugeot acquired a controlling stake in Citroen, another French car manufacturer, and the two companies merged in 1976 to become PSA Peugeot Citroen. In the 1980s, Peugeot launched a number of successful models, including the Peugeot 205, which was named European Car of the Year in 1984.
In 2014, PSA Peugeot Citroen was renamed to Groupe PSA, and in 2017, the company acquired Opel, a German car manufacturer. Fast forward to 2021, Groupe PSA merged with Italian-American car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to become Stellantis, one of the world's largest car manufacturers.
Throughout its history, Peugeot has also been involved in a number of other industries, including agriculture, arms manufacturing, and textiles. Today, the company is primarily focused on the production of automobiles, and its current lineup includes popular models such as the Peugeot 208, 308, and 5008.
